Ichinoseguchi Ichinoseguchi
The ruins of a teahouse where fireflies once danced wildly
Ichinoseguchi is a semi-circular stone bridge that was built in 1653 by Chen Daolong, the Great Master of the Tang Dynasty, and his Japanese name Egawa Tozaemon, who invested his personal funds to build a semicircular stone bridge over the Honkochi mountain stream in the upper reaches of the Nakajima River. It is a part of the old Nagasaki Highway centered around Sebashi, and is the ruins of a tea house that was at the gateway to Nagasaki from the old Nagasaki Highway. In the past, this area was famous for fireflies and there was a Japanese restaurant there, so it started to be called ``Hotaru Chaya'' sometime ago. Currently, it is known as Hotaru Chaya, a tram stop.
This is the place where those departing from Nagasaki and those seeing them off bid farewell and exchanged drinks, but today the only remains that remind us of those days are Ichinose Bridge and part of the old Nagasaki Kaido nearby. I am.
The Roman letters "ICHINOSEBASHI" engraved on the bridge inscription were carved around 1887. There is also an information board at the foot of the bridge that shows the old Nagasaki Highway and the route from Nagasaki to Isahaya.
