Benex School Ryu Hakubutsu Benex Dinosaur Museum

A museum where you can see and experience the history of dinosaurs in Nagasaki City

Japan's third museum dedicated to dinosaurs will open in Nagasaki City, a treasure trove of fossils, in October 3 at Mozaki Dinosaur Park in Nagasaki.

There's also a 13-meter-long Tyrannosaurus full-body skeleton replica that can only be seen here in Japan, a corner where you can touch real fossils, and a realistic reconstructed robot dinosaur! You can see, touch, feel and learn about ancient history.

More than 1,300 fossils have been discovered in Nagasaki City to date, all of which date back an astounding 8,100 million years. The first fossil of a large Tyrannosaurus tooth was excavated in Japan in 2015, and was discovered in a stratum from the Late Cretaceous Period (Mitsuse Formation). Many other dinosaur fossils have been discovered, proving that a wide variety of dinosaurs did indeed live in Nagasaki City.

The permanent exhibition room displays over 180 different specimens. Enjoy the dynamic and unique displays of fossils, including Tyrannosaurus, Stegosaurus, and Long-necked Dinosaur.

At the open lab, you can get an up-close look at facilities such as a laboratory that is equipped with an X-ray CT system - the first of its kind at a natural history museum in Kyushu - and the cleaning room where fossils are carved out of rocks.

In addition to dinosaur fossils that have already been discovered in Nagasaki City, we will also display actual fossils that will be discovered in the future, so as an ever-evolving museum, you are sure to find something different every time.
