Matsunomori Jinja Kusunokigun Camphor trees at Matsumori Shrine

A city-designated natural monument. The seven camphor trees are so magnificent that they are called Kusunoki Shrine.

There are seven camphor trees dotted around the grounds around Matsumori Shrine.

The height of these trees is approximately 20 to 25 m, and the trunk height at breast height is 7.80 m, 5 m, 3.50 m, 3.30 m, 2.70 m, 1.90 m, and 1.70 m from the largest. Both trees are said to have good vigor.

The largest of these has large and small branches that spread out in all directions, creating a beautiful canopy measuring 30m from east to west and 30m from north to south, and the roots that rise above the ground are majestic. The tree is believed to be over 300 years old, and you can feel its history in a powerful way. Many camphor trees are independent trees, and clusters of giant trees are rarely seen. It is so valuable that it has been designated as a natural monument by the city.
