Nagasaki Shigagakukan (Starship) Nagasaki City Science Museum (Starship)

From Nagasaki to Earth and to space

The museum opened in 1997 with the aim of "improving scientific knowledge and deepening understanding of Nagasaki's nature," and the exhibition room on the third floor was re-opened in 2018.
The ``Science Zone: Understanding the Land of Nagasaki'' introduces the characteristics of Nagasaki's geology, flora and fauna, and the scientists associated with Nagasaki who left their mark on the history of Japanese science. In the "Science Zone that Supports Nagasaki's Lifestyle," you can experience science and technology that surrounds us, such as photography, from a Nagasaki-like perspective, learn about how the human body moves, and learn how to make original fireworks virtually. Completely equipped. The ``Science Zone for Creating Nagasaki's Future'' introduces what scientific research has progressed to discover about the universe, as well as aspects that are still full of mysteries.
Other attractions include hands-on attractions such as the Earthquake Experience Stage and the Spaceship Adventure, where you can experience a simulated space trip.

At the attached planetarium, ``Space Theater,'' you can not only enjoy the starry sky, but also watch powerful all-sky movies that fill the dome screen. In the starry sky plaza on the top floor, the first astronomical observatory (a large reflecting telescope with a diameter of 1 cm) and the second astronomical observatory (a refracting telescope with a diameter of 70 cm) are installed. You can observe various celestial bodies depending on the season.
