Nagasaki Gunkanjimashiryokan Nagasaki City Gunkanjima Museum
A museum that tells the story of Gunkanjima, which greatly contributed to Japan's modernization.
This museum is located in Nomo Town, offering a panoramic view of Hashima (commonly known as Gunkanjima), a coal mining island designated as a World Cultural Heritage Site.
The history and culture of Gunkanjima is introduced through panel displays depicting the stressful work at the deep seabed and the daily lives of the people. It is also equipped with diorama models and a movie corner offering the latest 4K footage. The value of contributing to Japan's modernization and being recognized as a World Heritage Site, as well as its historical background, are explained in an easy-to-understand manner, allowing you to deepen your understanding. I highly recommend visiting this museum before going to Gunkanjima.
This museum is located in a section of Nagasaki's Mozaki Dinosaur Park, and includes the Nagasaki City Dinosaur Museum (advance reservations required), a children's plaza with plenty of play equipment, and sports facilities. The fast food restaurant has an eat-in space or an open terrace where you can eat, so it's a spot that people of all ages can enjoy, making it great for families. The Nomozaki area, which is approximately 40 minutes by car from the center of Nagasaki city, is recommended as a perfect driving course with beautiful sunsets over the sea.
