Asaichi Nomozaki Nomozaki morning market
We have a wide variety of fresh fish that even chefs are proud of!
This is a morning market with direct sales from fishermen and farmers, with the motto of ``Morning fresh, fresh''. The direct sales store, which opened in 2004, sells a variety of fresh seafood from Nomozaki, kamaboko, dried fish, vegetables, and flowers.
The area around Nomozaki has a warm climate throughout the year, and has blessed fishing grounds on three sides: Kazurikino-nada, Amakusa-nada, and Tachibana Bay, and has been a thriving fishing industry since ancient times.
In order to sell seasonal seafood to ordinary households, the morning market receives freshly caught live fish from members of the Nomozaki Sanwa Fisheries Cooperative every morning. It's so popular that there's a line even before it opens, especially on weekends!
Craftsmen from small restaurants and pubs are also regular customers of this morning market. You can get your hands on turban shells, abalone, etc. at the same time as lining up at the fish market. If you ask, they will take care of the preparation, including removing the three pieces, so you don't have to handle the fish yourself! No worries for those who say so.
Kamaboko, a local specialty, is sold by three of the eight kamaboko manufacturing companies around the former Nomozaki Town. Grilled kamaboko and steamed kamaboko made from horse mackerel and eel are also Nomozaki's proud specialties.
