Shitsubutunkamura: Chinmokunohi Shitsu Bunkamura: Silence Monument

Shusaku Endo's Silent Monument

Shusaku Endo is a writer known for his novel ``Silence,'' which is set in Sotome on the west coast of the Nishisogi Peninsula. There is a ``Silence Monument'' built by Mr. Endo's friend right next to the entrance of Shitsu Bunkamura. This monument is located on a hill overlooking the ocean, and you can see the Shusaku Endo Literary Museum along with the blue ocean.
A stone monument inscribed with the words, ``Humans are so sad, Lord, the sea is so blue.'' When you see this sentence, which seems like the author's sigh, the combination of the breathtaking view and the story makes the spot even more poignant. We recommend that you read the novel before you visit.
