Nagasaki Shiminamiyama Teles and House Nagasaki City Minamiyamate Rest House
Residences from the settlement era open to the public
The Nagasaki City Minami-Yamate Rest House (Minami-Yamate Otsu 27 Building) was located in the former Minami-Yamate Settlement Otsu 27 at the time of its construction, and is said to have been built at the end of the Edo period. It is an early foreign settlement house with a stone exterior wall, and has a unique feature in that the terrace uses a combination of stone pillars and wooden pillars.
It is close to the diagonal elevator entrance of Glover Sky Road and is also close to Glover Garden, so it is used as a facility where local people and tourists can easily take a break. You can tour the building for free, and old photographs and other materials from Nagasaki are also on display.
From the garden, you can see the cityscape in the direction of Higashi-Yamate, and from the entrance you can see Nagasaki Port beyond Oura Cathedral.
At night, it is lit up along with the nearby Oura Cathedral, Kyoenzaka, and Oura Observatory Park, creating a fantastical atmosphere that is different from the daytime.
