Let's take a look at the buildings too!

This building is a two-story wooden Western-style building that was built as a residence in the mid-Meiji period. It is said that the painter Gogomichi Suka decided to make this Western-style building his own museum after seeing it with his own eyes. It was restored using the pillars and other features of the old house, and it is said that at the time of construction, a veranda was built on the first and second floors of the front.
When it was transformed into a museum, the interior walls were painted a new color at the artist's request.
The owner of the building was G. Napalkov, a Russian who ran several businesses, including a general agency business, in Kusarimatsu (now Matsugae) during the settlement period. Also pay attention to the roof, which has a mantelpiece, which is a symbol of Western-style buildings from the Meiji period.

The artist's unique commitment to "showing"

The first thing that greets you in the exhibition room on the first floor is a statue of artist Gojo Suka.
The hat was said to have been put on by the artist himself, so it seems that he is somewhat mischievous.
In addition, the arranged artificial flower display was sent by the artist himself, requesting it to be placed in this location. All of the spaces in this museum have been created with the artist's commitment to ``showing.''
