Nagasaki Peace Museum Nagasaki Peace Museum

A gateway to the world from Nagasaki to help realize a “peaceful earth”

The museum was established by Nagasaki-born singer Masashi Sada, who called for ``creating a peace museum in Nagasaki,'' with donations collected from all over the country.
With the honorary director of the museum, graphic designer Yasuharu Harada, the museum focuses on disseminating peace information and building peace networks, thinking not only about ``opposition to war,'' but also about issues that occur in our daily lives, such as human rights, discrimination, the environment, and culture. We work together with volunteers from all over the country to achieve this goal.

Maps of conflict areas around the world, literature on peace and war, and photographs of children around the world are always on display. We hold exhibitions and concerts that are open to the public both domestically and internationally, and the best part is that anyone can participate for free.
In addition, the stained glass inside the museum depicts a peaceful star somewhere in the night sky, with a dove, the symbol of peace, flying toward the star.

While conveying the current state of the world, through beautiful nature, smiles, music, etc., we are conducting a campaign to help children think about the first step toward peace so that they can live with smiles on their faces.

Don't miss it! Attractiveness as a building

Tetsuo Furuichi, who was in charge of the building design, is an architect active in various parts of the world, including Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Mr. Furuichi took advantage of the inadequate site and designed the building to have a long zigzag distance from the gate to the approach, so that by the time you get inside, your spirit will be purified and uplifted.
Also, pay attention to the illumination at night, which gives a different look than during the day!
The lighting design is handled by Mikiko Ishii, who is active around the world as a pioneer Japanese lighting designer. She is a specialist who established the charm of creating spaces using light in Japan, such as Tokyo Tower, Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, Himeji Castle, Oura Cathedral, and Nagasaki Huis Ten Bosch.
It is said that the ruby red light represents the passionate feelings of those who participated in the Shellfish Movement, and the sapphire green light represents the sincere hope for peace of the many people who visit this place.
Although you cannot enter the museum at night, be sure to take a look at its appearance at night when it is illuminated from outside.
