Pintokozaka Pintokozaka
The hill where tragic love stories are told is a very long and steep hill.
It is a slope that runs from the cemetery area of Kamikojima, which is on the old Mogi Highway, to the front gate of Nagasaki Prefectural Minami High School.
During the Kan'ei era (1624-1643), the place where He Pintoku, a Chinese man who made counterfeit money, was executed, was where Otowa, a tragic prostitute who admired him, was executed. ) committed suicide here. It is said that the area came to be known by this name because of the castle mound where this prostitute was buried.
It is a long and steep road from the sign board marked Pintoko Slope at the bottom of the hill to the sign board in front of the south school.
There is a theory that it came to be called Pintoko-zaka because people in Nagasaki used to say ``Pintokodokkoisho'' when going up and down steep slopes.
