Tenmangu Shrine that enshrines Michizane Sugawara

One of the three shrines in Nagasaki, along with Suwa Shrine and Isemiya Shrine, Tenmangu Shrine is dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, and has been loved by the people of Nagasaki since the Edo period as the god of learning.
It was founded in Hakata Town in 1625, and moved to its current location on the site of Suwa Shrine in 1656.
The company name ``Matsumori'' is said to have come from the fact that there were three pine trees growing here at the time, and when you put the three trees together they form the character for forest.
Although the pine tree no longer exists, there are seven large camphor trees that are designated as a natural monument by the city growing in the temple grounds. It is about 7 to 20 meters tall, with a large trunk that can reach about 30 meters in circumference, creating a beautiful canopy that measures about 8 meters in all directions. There are also many plum trees that are unique to Tenmangu Shrine, and you can enjoy their beautiful flowers from late January to early February.
The transoms of the outer fence are inlaid with 30 carved and colored boards depicting the customs of medieval craftsmen. It is called "Shokuninzukushi" and is a prefecture-designated tangible cultural property. The illustrations include confectionery artisans, shipwrights, and pharmaceutical workers, and their detailed depictions of artisan customs are highly valued as historical and folklore materials as well as works of art.
There are other shrines, shrines, a main gate from the Edo period, and a stone bridge within the precincts, and you can enjoy a leisurely stroll with the chickens kept there.

A splendid group of camphor trees that is often mocked as Kusunoki Shrine

The name Matsumori Shrine comes from the fact that, as the name suggests, there were three pine trees (three trees means a forest). However, because the presence of the large Kusu tree is now greater than the pine tree, it is now called "Kusumori Shrine."
It is said that three pine trees have been planted there in recent years.

Camphor trees are called camphor trees in English, but foreigners from the time of the foreign settlements were familiar with the Mt. This group of camphor trees is about 20 to 25 meters tall, and the trunk girth of the larger ones is about 8 meters.
The large and small branches spread about 30 meters in all directions, creating a beautiful crown.
