Ryoma Street Ryoma Street
Nagasaki historical tour where you can feel the breath of the late Edo period when Ryoma walked
A slope lined with stone steps runs from Teramachi Street between Jinsoji and Zenrinji temples, passing through the remains of Kameyama Shrine, a place associated with Ryoma, to Kazegashira Park. Ryoma Sakamoto and other Kameyama Shachu comrades used to walk up and down this street wherever they went, and it is now known as ``Ryoma Street'' and is loved by local people.
Along the road developed as the Nagasaki Historical Exploration Route, there is the Nagasaki City Kameyama Shachu Memorial Hall, which was built on the site of Kameyama Shachu, which is said to be Japan's first trading company founded by Ryoma Sakamoto. There is also the Kameyama Shachu Materials Exhibition Hall, where items related to Ryoma are displayed.
The Ryoma Butsu Statue, located in the pocket park in front of the shrine gate, is a popular photo spot! You can actually put your feet into the boots, so you can feel like you're Ryoma.
There is Wakamiya Inari Shrine, where Ryoma and other patriots from the end of the Edo period visited, and Kazagashira Park, where there is a bronze statue of Ryoma staring out over the sea, making it a sacred pilgrimage spot for Ryoma fans.
Along the way, there are information boards about Kaientai members set up by Nagasaki City, and unique information boards handmade by members of the Kameyamasha Junior High School Utilization Association. It is designed so that you can take your time to admire the flowers and trees.
