Megane Ohashi Goddess Bridge

Spectacular view point overlooking Nagasaki Port

Megami Bridge (Venus Wing) connects the southern and western parts of Nagasaki City, which are separated by Nagasaki Port, over the shortest distance. It is the 6th longest cable-stayed bridge in Japan, with a structure in which the tower and girder are connected and supported by diagonal cables, and is 65 meters below the girder, allowing large ships to pass through.
It is also lit up at night, making it a symbol of the world's new three great night views, along with Hong Kong and Monaco. Normally, the lighting is based on white, but during events, colorful lighting is used. Its beauty has been recognized as a ``Japanese Night View Heritage Site'' (Light-up Night View Heritage Site).
Although it is a toll road called ``Nagasaki Megami Ohashi Road'', pedestrians can use it for free. If you are driving, parking is prohibited on Nagasaki Megami Ohashi Road, so park your car in the parking lot and take a walk.

This is an absolutely spectacular view

    You can ride or walk.

Parking is prohibited on Megami Ohashi Bridge.
If you want to enjoy the view from the top of the bridge, park your car at the free parking lot on the Tomachi side.
We recommend walking across. The distance is approximately 1.3km one way. Since the bridge is located 65m above sea level, the wind blows quite strongly, so if you are going to cross in the winter, you will need to be protected from the cold.
When you walk to the center of the bridge and look towards Mt. Inasa, you can see the bright blue sea and the city of Nagasaki spread out on both sides of the bridge, a landscape that seems to symbolize the port of Nagasaki. In addition, in the area of the outer port, there are a number of islands scattered around Iojima, creating a landscape unlike anything you have seen before. You can enjoy the scenery from Megami Ohashi Bridge, which has a different look in the early morning, during the day, and at dusk.
However, it is not possible to cross the bridge halfway, so it is best to decide which side you want to see the view from before crossing the bridge.

  • Peephole-65 located at a height of 1m

Peephole located at a height of 65m

There are several small square windows on the sidewalk of Megami Ohashi Bridge that allow you to see what's going on 65 meters below.
It's hard to see from the sea level, but from the small window overlooking the ground, you can see small cars running under the bridge and get a feel for the height of the bridge. If you are brave, why not take a look?
