Takashima Kyokai Takashima Church

Takashima is located about 35 minutes by boat from Nagasaki City. The island, along with Hashima (Gunkanjima) to the south, once flourished as a coal mine.
Takashima Church, located in the northern part of Takashima, has a long history, with the first church being built over 120 years ago.
With donations from believers, a 45 tsubo church was built at its current location. The number of believers increased as the population increased due to the development of the Takashima Coal Mine, and the current church building is a chalk church built in 1954.
The bell installed in front of the door is the Angelus Bell, which was brought from France when the first church was built. You can feel the weight of history with this wonderful bell with detailed decorations. The church is still carefully protected by about 30 believers.
