Gongen Yamatenbou Koen Gongenyama Observation Park
A scenic spot surrounded by the majestic sea
Gongenyama Observatory Park, one of the prefecture's most famous camellia viewing spots, is home to more than 1 Japanese camellias, and is a park located on the summit of Mt. Gongen, located at the southernmost tip of Japan and approximately 198 meters above sea level.
The observatory is in a spectacular location overlooking the Amakusa Sea to the east, the Goto Sea to the west, and the endless East China Sea to the south. You can also see Gunkanjima, a world cultural heritage site. The sunset over the Goto Sea is breathtakingly beautiful.
Inside the park, there is the ``Nomo Tokenbansho Ruins'' that alerted the Nagasaki Magistrate's Office of the arrival and departure of foreign ships, and the ``Mago Bell'', which is a married couple's bell that echoes the ``Bell of Wish'' at Hiroshima Peace Park, which prays for world peace.
