Takashimakebochi Takashima family cemetery
City designated historic site
There is a cemetery in the back mountain of Kodaiji Temple where many famous people who were active in Nagasaki and people who held important positions in Nagasaki are buried. Among them, there are fine tombstones where the members of the Takashima family are buried.
The Takashima family was an elderly family that had lived in Omura-cho (present-day Manzai-cho) for generations. The first ancestor, Ujiharu, moved to Nagasaki in 1574, and the first generation, Shigeharu, later became the head of the town.
In the center front is the tombstone of the 3rd generation Lord Shigeru, but Shigeru died in 1673, and considering the arrangement of the graves, it is thought that the grave area was established around the Kanbun period (1661-1673).
There are tombstones for the heads of the family, from the first founder to the 11th generation (the tombstone of the 6th generation, Ototsu, is in the Betske Takashima family cemetery). There are also gravestones for three family members.
There are other graveyards dotted along the way to Kazagashira Park, so take a walk up to the top of the hill, look out over the city of Nagasaki, and reminisce about those days.
