Experience the spectacular view of Nagasaki Port that even great figures were fascinated by!

Located on Minami-Yamate Hill overlooking the panoramic view of Nagasaki Port, it is one of Nagasaki's most popular sightseeing spots, full of exotic atmosphere.
Six Western-style buildings from the Meiji period that were scattered around the city have been relocated and restored, mainly the former Glover House, former Ringer House, and former Orto House, all of which are nationally designated important cultural properties. The stone pavements and stone steps that retain the vestiges of the settlement era further enhance the atmosphere of history and culture. Every part of the park is decorated with flowers, and no matter where you look, it's a picturesque space.

We also boast a great location overlooking Nagasaki Port with Mt. Inasa, a landmark of Nagasaki City, in the background. It is no wonder that the great people who lived there right after the opening of the port were fascinated by this spectacular view.

What you should definitely look for when you visit is the Heart Stone, which is located on a section of cobblestone pavement. It is said to be a power spot with a legend related to the fulfillment of love, such as, ``If you touch this stone and make a wish, your love will come true.'' From mid-July to early October, when the Western-style buildings are lit up, you can enjoy a romantic atmosphere that is different from the daytime.

We also recommend renting costumes and taking photos at a retro photo studio! Makeup products related to Madame Butterfly and original goods decorated with four-leaf clovers are also popular and make great souvenirs.

Due to the hilly terrain unique to Nagasaki, the park is equipped with moving walkways and escalators to create a walking path. As a result, it is popular with people of all ages and is crowded with tourists throughout the year.

It is the oldest existing wooden Western-style building in Japan. Glover moved from place to place, but after building the main building, which was mainly used as a salon for customer service, he moved his home base here, and as a result of repeated remodeling and additions, in the middle of the Meiji period, it became the four-leaf clover that it is today. It is said that it took the form of The seasonal flowers that decorate the garden and the orchids blooming in the European-style greenhouse, which was a hobby of Glover's and had been there since the building was founded, give a sense of the peaceful life of the past.

There are flowers everywhere in the park, and I love that you can enjoy the joy of admiring the seasonal flowers no matter when you visit.
One of its characteristic flowers is the Amana, a member of the Liliaceae family, which blooms pale blue flowers from early March to April. This flower is also called Hananira, and is said to have been distributed only within the reservation area during the reservation period. From early April to early May, Mokko roses form an arch on the pillars of the porches of the former Glover residence and the former Orto residence, and produce pure white flowers. The Mokkoubara of the former Orto House is said to be the oldest tree in Japan. And Cymbidium thracyanum, a western orchid native to Southeast Asia, was first brought to Japan by Glover.
Descendants of orchids brought in by Glover still bloom in the greenhouse of the former Glover residence from March to April.

why? why? There are no toilets in Western-style buildings!

When you look around the Western-style buildings in the park, you'll notice that none of them have toilets!
In fact, toilets at that time used portable toilet bowls, or omaru, for indoor use. By the way, it seems that the maids cleaned up after they relieved themselves. There is no toilet in the room, but the old Orto house has a bathroom with tiles in a boarded-up room.
