Kazagashira Koen Kazegashira Park

A famous spot for kite-flying surrounded by nature with a statue of Ryoma Sakamoto

It is located on Mt. Kazeto, about 3km east of JR Nagasaki Station, at an altitude of 151.9m overlooking Nagasaki Port, and is famous as a famous spot for Nagasaki's specialty, Hataage (kite flying).

In addition to facilities such as playground equipment and a multipurpose plaza, you can enjoy seasonal flowers, including approximately 350 cherry blossom trees in spring and approximately 2,500 hydrangeas in early summer. In spring, the Kazagashira Park Cherry Blossom Festival is held, and at night the park is lit up with paper lanterns, creating a magical atmosphere.

In the small plaza, a statue of Sakamoto Ryoma is erected, with his arms folded and his boots on, looking out at Nagasaki Bay, making this a spot that can be called a sacred place for Ryoma fans.
This statue, which is said to closely resemble Ryoma himself, was created in 1989 by Kazukuni Yamazaki, a sculptor living in Nagasaki, and was erected with donations from citizens. There is also a literary monument to Ryotaro Shiba's novel ``Ryoma ga Yuku'' next door.
There are also the grave of Japan's first professional photographer, Hikoma Ueno, and the Nagasaki Hata Museum (Ogawa Hata branch), so you can enjoy historical exploration.

Ryoma statue staring at Nagasaki Port

Many Ryoma fans must have visited the Sakamoto Ryoma statue that stands on the observation deck of Kazagashira Park.
Kameyama Shachu, Japan's first company, was founded by Ryoma, who left the Tosa domain, at the end of the Edo period, with support from Takamori Saigo of the Satsuma domain and others, in a place called Kameyama, halfway up Mt. They also participated in the shipping industry and political activities, and later changed their name to "Kaientai" and were probably considering expanding into the world.
This statue of Ryoma stares intently at Nagasaki Port, which is open to the world, with a powerful gaze that seems to be looking toward the future.
