The Nagasaki branch of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank started operations in Nagasaki at the end of the Edo period. It was designed by Kikutaro Shimoda, a great architect in the Meiji to early Showa era. It has gone through various changes and has been restored to its original appearance.
