A building that retains the image of ordinary Japanese life
Baikazakicho is said to have been named after the plum trees in the grounds of the neighboring Junincho Tenmangu Shrine, which are renowned for their beautiful blossoms and fragrant fragrance. The store was named Baikazaki Shoten because it was a historic merchant house in Baikazakicho, and the name is a good fit for the plum idiom "with both flowers and fruit." While the area may have a strong foreign image, with Western-style buildings and Chinatown that colorfully decorate Nagasaki's history, there is also a very ordinary Japanese lifestyle. You can spend your time here imagining how the people who lived here in the past felt and lived their lives.

Experience the Japanese atmosphere of Nagasaki in an old house decorated with lanterns
This 170-year-old building was built at the end of the Edo period and was used as a merchant's house. It has been renovated with the concept of preserving and utilizing its original appearance as much as possible. This cafe is a two-story old house where you can enjoy seasonal menus such as organic coffee, sweets made with seasonal ingredients, and zenzai. Why not enjoy a taste of Japanese cuisine before the Lantern Festival, which is filled with Chinese colors? It is located about a three-minute walk from the Tojin Yashiki venue. It is usually only open during the day, but during the Lantern Festival, it is open at night only on weekends. The lanterns hanging from the eaves only during this time of year illuminate the quaint old house with a soft light, adding to the atmosphere.

1. Because business and daily life coexisted inside the building, the interior space is much larger than you would expect. Apparently, there are very few houses this old left.

2. This is how it looks during the Lantern Festival. The daytime atmosphere is also nice.

3. At night, the lanterns glow orange.

4. The cafe space on the second floor has a nostalgic feel to it, with old furniture and a retro CRT TV in a renovated, high-quality atmosphere. You can relax and enjoy the view outside.

5. Warm your body and soul with winter-only zenzai. In summer, chilled zenzai topped with ice cream is available.

6. Organic coffee has a gentle flavor

7. Freshly brewed coffee is served from the cafe counter located just inside the entrance on the first floor.

8. Take-out is also available, so feel free to drop in!
