Experience the Wakaran culture

Nagasaki's unique food culture and streetscape, which is a mix of Japanese, Western and Chinese cultures, is called Wakan-Lan culture, and the building where Restaurant HAJIME is located is an old Japanese house, which was previously used as a Chinese restaurant and is now used as an auberge that also doubles as an Italian restaurant. Come and experience Nagasaki's Wakan-Lan culture here.

Escape the hustle and bustle of the Lantern Festival and enjoy a relaxing Italian lunch in a traditional Japanese house

The Chinese restaurant "Totoutei," which sadly closed in 2020, will be renovated while leaving intact what can be preserved, such as the beams and roof, and will be transformed into an auberge with accommodation facilities in 2023. At "Restaurant HAJIME" within the facility, non-guests can also enjoy meals. The chef personally gathers ingredients from within Nagasaki Prefecture that he is satisfied with and prepares authentic Italian cuisine, and each dish is exquisite. For lunch, which changes every month, you can choose from two courses at different prices. Enjoy a leisurely adult lunch before the lively night of the Lantern Festival.

1. The location is just a stone's throw from the Tojin-yashiki venue. You'll walk along a charming stone pavement covered in vines.

2. This historic and impressive building was constructed in the Meiji period (1908). Since 1949, it has been widely loved as a Chinese restaurant.

3. A round table reminiscent of the Chinese restaurant era (for 4 or more guests). A room where you can enjoy the view of the courtyard garden.

4. The first dish of the lunch course (appetizer) is the classic "foie gras mousse" sandwiched with chocolate ganache.

5. "Striped jack salad with soft-boiled egg and bottarga" topped with Nagasaki's specialty dried mullet roe

6. "Fried hairtail fish with perilla pesto" topped with onion mousse

7. "Shimabara Lamb Chili Con Carne Conchiglioni" made with a mysterious Shimabara lamb that is barely known even among chefs. You can choose from pasta, risotto, or pizza.

8. "Roasted Unzen Akane Pork with Black Garlic Sauce." The main dish can be chosen from pork or fish. You can also change to Iki beef or duck for an additional fee.

9. Except for dessert, the restaurant uses top-quality ingredients from Nagasaki Prefecture. You can feel the pride and respect for local ingredients.

10. Auberge with three rooms. This is one of the rooms in the "Omoya" main house. It has a spacious interior and a tasteful veranda corridor.

11. The most popular room is "KURA". It is the only one of the three rooms with a cypress bath. It has a unique hideaway-like atmosphere.
