The candles that are passed around when making wishes are also red!

The Lantern Festival is not only held at the main venue, Minato Park, but also at various other venues in the city center. One of the fun things to do is to "sarute" (walk) from one point to another while celebrating the Chinese New Year, and the Four Halls Tour is an event to make wishes come true. Enjoy the Nagasaki night while looking at the different atmospheres of each building, as well as the lanterns and objects. The sake afterwards will surely taste even better!

A light stamp rally where you can make a wish on a candle

One of the experiential events held every year at the Lantern Festival is the "Candle Prayer Tour of Four Halls," which takes place in one of the venues, an area of the mansion where Chinese merchants (Tang people) once stayed. The "light stamp rally" takes participants to four halls that were built as "spiritual anchors" for the Tang people of the time - the Earth God Hall, the Tianhou Hall, the Kannon Hall, and the Fujian Assembly Hall - and it is said that if you light a red candle and pray at each hall, your wish will come true. The participation fee is 4 yen, and all participants will receive a commemorative gift.

1. A popular experiential event at the Lantern Festival where you hold a red candle and visit the four halls of the Chinese House to make a wish.

2. The beautiful Chinese-style round windows and roof shape of the Tsuchijin-do Hall are reminiscent of the Dragon Palace.

3. The dignified atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing. It is said that Tsuchijindo has the power to increase your financial luck.

4. The Tenkodo Hall enshrines Mazu, the goddess of navigation and fishing, to pray for safety at sea. The exotic feel of the bricks is also a plus.

5. The Kannon Hall, which was built in 1737, is sure to make you want to take pictures with its brick texture and atmosphere.

6. The Kannon Hall was rebuilt in 1787 after it was damaged by fire. The arched stone gate at the entrance is said to date back to the Chinese residence period.

7. The Kannon Hall enshrines the god of business prosperity, Guandi. Pray to him and see the benefits in your work!

8. Fujian Assembly Hall Tianhou Hall, built in 1868, is the newest of the four halls. Its design is a wonderful fusion of Chinese and Japanese styles.

9. The main building of the Fujian Assembly Hall, Tenko-do, was destroyed by the atomic bomb. The main gate and Tenko-do still remain, and you can see the red bricks that survived the war up close.
