Retro and emotional, only here!
The area around the Tojin Yashiki venue has a unique retro feel that is also attractive. The "Inner Market" that once stood in this area is lined with many shops, and you can still feel the hustle and bustle of the area up until 20 years ago. Signs that recall those days still remain, and you can take some emotional photos here.

A spot where you'll want to take photos, with lanterns and art on a small alley off the main street
In the area around the Chinese settlement "Chinese settlement" of the Nagasaki Lantern Festival, you will be greeted by some wonderful art that you won't find anywhere else. The art was painted by the art clubs of private high schools in Nagasaki (Kaisei, Kwassui, Junshin, Nagasaki Women's, and Soka University Affiliated High School) on the shutters of Nakadori in Tatenai-cho, Nagasaki, where the Chinese settlement "Chinese settlement" used to be. The colorful and fresh paintings, themed on things related to the Chinese settlement, such as the Mazu procession and Chinese ships, will captivate visitors. In addition, all the shutter art is said to feature "curved tail cats," a unique feature of Nagasaki, so be sure to check how many there are. Another attraction of the Chinese settlement is that you can enjoy and stroll around in a slightly different way than at other lantern festival venues.

1. The streets are lined with innovative shutter art created by students, ranging from images that are symbolic of the area, such as Chinese boats and Mazu processions, to Chinese images such as pandas and dragons.

2. When the lanterns are lit at night, the area becomes quiet and tranquil. The candle light also adds to the atmosphere.

3. The powerful painting of Suzaku and Seiryu fits perfectly into a night scene with lights on.

4. Until just 20 years ago, this area was the site of a market. Fishmongers, butchers, greengrocers, tofu stores and other shops were lined up here. Many retro Showa-era signs and buildings still remain.

5. It's also a wonderful place to stroll at night. You can enjoy a different atmosphere from the lively Lantern Festival.

6. One of the biggest attractions of the lantern event is the shutters depicting the Mazu procession.
