There are also fried grouper events at schools.
When I was little, I did some fried grouper at a school event or something. After I had children, those memories came back to me, and I took them to a fried grouper competition and enjoyed it with the whole family. I hope that someday when my children grow up, they will remember it again. I hope that Nagasaki's tradition will continue forever.

The spring sky of Nagasaki is the stage for kite competitions.
In Nagasaki, "hata" means a kite, and is characterized by being made by cutting and gluing together brush-dyed Japanese paper. The main event of the Nagasaki Hata Flying Competition, a springtime tradition in Nagasaki, is the "Hata Battle," where colorful hatas compete with other hatas in the sky and cut their strings, a spectacle that can only be seen in Nagasaki. It is also called "Kenka Bata." The strings used in this battle are made of glass powder called "Bidoroyoma," which is kneaded with glue and applied to hemp thread, and have been designated as a traditional craft of the prefecture along with "Nagasaki Hata." This is a traditional event that has been held since the Edo period, and in addition to the Hata Battle, there are also parent-child Hata flying classes and related goods for sale, making it a lively event that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and genders.

1. The designs are simple and based on the traditional Japanese paper colors of white, blue, and red, and feature designs of flags of all nations, Dutch flags, family crests, and seasonal flowers.

2. When actually frying the grouper, attach yoma (hemp thread) to the center of the top and bottom of the grouper, and then connect the beadro yoma for the grouper battle to the yoma.

3. The Bidoro Yoma thread used for the battle has a rough texture and will break if entangled too tightly, so the quality of the thread also determines the outcome of the battle. Below is the Yoma (hemp thread) used outside the battle.

4. Once the pleasant spring winds begin to blow, you will have more opportunities to encounter fried grouper, regardless of the event.

5. The Nagasaki Grouper Fried Festival is a traditional event that is loved as one of the three major Nagasaki events along with the Nagasaki Kunchi and the Shoronagashi festivals.

6. Every year, there are also displays of traditional bata and free distribution of one-sen bata. You can experience Nagasaki culture through stage events.
