Hiroharu Takahira
Kanji Takahira
Nagasaki Veruca/Shooting Guard/Born in Nagasaki City

Born in Nagasaki City and raised in Sasebo until the age of 7, he is currently the only player on the team from Nagasaki Prefecture. He signed a contract with Nagasaki Veruca in the first year of its establishment, and is currently in his third year with the club. In the 3-2022 season, he led the team as captain. Mr. Nagasaki has an aggressive style of play that makes you excited.

-You're the only one from Nagasaki on the team, right?

I'm the only local player on the team, so I'm often asked about recommended restaurants and places to play. However, everyone seems to be secretly going around here and there. When a story about a store that I don't even know comes up in a conversation, I feel all sorts of emotions, such as pride in knowing how good my hometown is, and sadness in knowing that someone has moved on. (lol). By the way, the other day, my teammates and I went to Iseya in Hamaguchicho, Nagasaki City's second downtown area. The balance between the red meat, which has the natural flavor of Nagasaki Wagyu beef, and the mellow-tasting fatty meat was exquisite. I'm very happy with this deliciousness at this price! That's what I thought. After all, athletes eat a lot.

-What is your new impression of Nagasaki?

I was born in Ogakura, a seaside town in the southern part of Nagasaki City, but I lived in Sasebo until I was 7 years old. My grandfather and grandmother's family home is in Nagasaki City, so I go back and forth quite often and have many fond memories there. When I was driving, I often looked at the beautiful sea, so my impression was that there were many spots with beautiful scenery and rich nature. Of course, the food is delicious too! Recently, I had a chance to go see the area near the house where I used to live, and the memories of those days came back to me, so I immersed myself in the memories for a while.

-Are there any particularly memorable spots?

My grandfather passed away just this year, and whenever I went to lunch with him, it was always at an old-fashioned coffee shop called Dohachisen. I7I lived in Nagasaki Prefecture until I was 2000, and then moved to Fukuoka and Osaka.2He returned to Nagasaki around the Bon New Year holidays. When I was back home, whenever I asked where to go for lunch, I always ended up going to Dohachisen, an antique cafe and restaurant. That's why I still sometimes want to eat something like Nagasaki's famous Turkish rice. I went there the other day after the season ended, and it had a very nostalgic atmosphere and taste.
Speaking of Nagasaki City, it is all about festivals. Nagasaki Kunchi, held every fall, is a memorable event. It was amazing to see the city become completely colored by Okunchi. Also, when I look back on my old memories, there was a large pedestrian bridge in front of the Chuo Bridge, and I vividly remember walking over it quite a bit. My grandfather took me and my brother and I3I used to walk around with people a lot. It's so nostalgic.

-What places would you recommend in Nagasaki City?

When I became a university student, I started living in Nagasaki.THEMy grandfather took me out for drinks in the downtown area of Doza. I think it was around the time the coming-of-age ceremony was over. I'm not the type of person who drinks that much, and my parents and I never drank together.……. One day, my grandfather said, ``Let's go to Doza!'' and we went to a small restaurant in Doza. It was fun to browse around the shops. The narrow streets are lined with various shops packed with Nagasaki food, so it's recommended if you're sightseeing.

-What are the new attractions of Nagasaki City?
