Marine activities and swimming in the crystal clear sea

After a 30-minute drive from Nagasaki city, passing through the Iojima Ohashi Bridge through the sea breeze, you will be greeted by the white beach and sparkling blue sea of Iojima Beach. The Costa del Sol, which means ``Coast of the Sun'' in Spanish, is a beach where you can feel the blue sky and pleasant sunlight as its name suggests. The white sand beach stretches for 340 meters, and on calm days the beach looks like a mirror. You can relax on the sofa in the beach house while looking out at the clear sea of Io Island, or if you want to play in the sea to your heart's content, try marine activities such as SUP, banana boat, and sea kayaking. Maritime athletics such as slides and diving boards are also available. Iojima is the only place in Kyushu where you can enjoy sea bathing, marine activities, and marine athletics at the same time. Whatever you want to do at sea, you can do it on this island.

To the deep and local hidden gems of the sea

I like to enjoy marine leisure activities to the fullest, but today I want to spend a relaxing time on the sandy beach while looking out at the sea. When you feel like this, please go to Matabei Beach. Located in the Kotoumi district of Nagasaki City, in the middle of Omura Bay, this beach is secretly frequented by Nagasaki residents due to the high transparency of the sea. It's not in the open sea, but in the inland sea, in Omura Bay, so the waves are calm, and it's so quiet that you can't hear the waves unless a boat passes by. There are few people around, so you'll feel like you're on a private beach. In addition to the beach, you can enjoy a variety of scenery such as tetrapods, isolated islands, rocky areas, and shrines. Fish on the breakwater and beachcomb in the sandbox. This is a little-known beach where you can play on the shore just like you did when you were a child.
*Beachcombing should only be done for personal enjoyment.

Remote island beach selected as one of Japan's 88 Best Bathing Beaches

Takashima Beach, located 35 minutes by boat from Nagasaki Port and approximately 14.5 km from the center of Nagasaki City, has been selected as one of Japan's 88 Best Bathing Beaches for its beautiful contrast between the clear cobalt blue sea and white sand. It is an artificial beach. There is a water revetment, so the waves are calm, so you can feel safe even with children. The approximately 200-meter beach is fully equipped with facilities such as beach huts, wooden decks, rest areas, and hot showers. You can enjoy swimming in a comfortable environment that doesn't make you feel like you're on a remote island. World-rare corals breed in the sea, so it's fun to try snorkeling (for a fee). After enjoying playing in the sea, why not enjoy a barbecue at the Takashima Fureai Campsite next to the beach?

A beach with a spectacular view of Gunkanjima

Takahama Beach, located in the Nomozaki area at the tip of the Nagasaki Peninsula, is a beach known for having rare rocks such as Tsunakake-iwa and Meoto-iwa. The white sand beach is nearly 1 km long, and the sea is crystal clear. The beautiful shallow sea has been selected as one of the ``100 Best Beaches in Japan,'' ``88 Best Bathing Beaches in Japan,'' and ``XNUMX Best Bathing Beaches in Japan.'' What is especially noteworthy is that you can see Gunkanjima (Hashima), a World Cultural Heritage site, across the calm sea. During the day, you can see Gunkanjima floating between the blue sky and blue sea, and in the evening, you can see the shadow of Gunkanjima floating in the setting sun. The waves are calm, so even children can swim safely at this beach. If you want to enjoy a spectacular view that can only be experienced in Nagasaki, please visit Takahama Beach.

The beauty of nature becomes a natural aquarium

Wakimisaki Beach is a 1300m-long white sandy beach where snails grow naturally, and is also known as a mecca for board sailing. One of the highlights is the natural terraces (beach rocks) created by wave erosion that appear during low tide. Wakimisaki Beach Rock, a designated natural monument in Nagasaki Prefecture, is 300 meters long and 24000 square meters in area at low tide. A fan-shaped ocher washboard-shaped rocky area stands out. Wakimisaki Beach Rock, which can be described as a beautiful natural formation, has a large tidal pool where you can observe the shrimp, octopus, small fish, etc. gathered there while listening to the sound of the waves. Please enjoy the "natural aquarium" while feeling the sea breeze.

Nagasaki Peron Championship Tournament

*The Reiwa 5th Nagasaki Peron Championship has ended*

The heated battle on the sea is an important traditional event in Nagasaki.

Peron rowing was already a pastime for the people of Nagasaki during the Edo period. It is said to have been brought to Nagasaki from China around 1655, and is still passed down as a traditional event. Twenty-six rowers manned boats approximately 14 meters in length and rowed a distance of 26 meters round trip to the beat of drums and gongs. On the beach, cheering teams waved big catch flags and team flags, cheering loudly. The delivery is amazing. It is said that once players and spectators experience it, they become addicted to it. It is also an important event that deepens the bonds between adults and children while interacting with the sea.

Special voices of Nagasaki citizens

When I listened to the voices of the citizens, I realized that there was so much Nagasaki that I didn't know. This year, let's go to Nagasaki that you don't know about.

Peron has been an integral part of my life ever since I could remember, as my father has been the manager of the Nomozaki Peron Club in his hometown, Nomozaki, for many years. It was something natural and important. Having said that, I had been playing baseball for 16 years since I was in elementary school, but I had never been involved with the Nomozaki Peron Club until I entered the workforce. After entering the workforce and returning to his hometown, he practiced as a member of the team for the first time and participated in the Nagasaki Peron Championship. From this year onwards, I found myself falling in love with the charm of Peron, which I had been playing for only one year, even more so than the baseball I had been playing for 16 years. Parents, siblings, cousins, relatives, childhood friends, local seniors and juniors. You can work toward the same goal with your loved ones who are of different generations and relationships. And above all, we can fight for the hometown we love. It is the ultimate team sport that tests love for family, friends, and hometown.

When I was a kid, when it came to swimming in the sea, I often went to the Costa del Sol on Io Island! There is also a pool, so I had a luxurious time enjoying both the pool and the sea♪ There are also plenty of marine sports, so you can have a great time ♡ I love the view from here, not only in summer but also in other seasons. I'm going out to play! Just looking at the waves is so relaxing! There is OBACOBA where you can BBQ right in front of the beach, so we recommend enjoying both BBQ and swimming to enjoy summer to the fullest☆
