Spring Nagasaki, Higashi-Yamate/Minami-Yamate ``Sweets Walk''

Nagasaki City, a city rich in historical heritage, is dotted with sightseeing spots that exude an exotic atmosphere. In particular, the Higashi-Yamate and Minami-Yamate areas are Nagasaki's representative tourist areas where you can see remnants of foreign settlements, including churches, numerous Western-style buildings, and cobblestone pavements. We'd like to introduce a plan that allows you to enjoy walking around town while soaking up the nostalgic feeling while basking in the soft spring sunlight. It's a tourist area with a lot to see, so if you're feeling a little tired, why not take a break at a shop that serves delicious sweets? The title is ``Sweets Walk'' in Nagasaki, Higashi-Yamate and Minami-Yamate in spring. I'm sure you'll have some sweet memories!

An exotic location inspired by a Portuguese palace

Hotel Monterey is located in the Oura area, with easy access to Glover Garden and Confucius Temple, and features an exotic atmosphere. There are carefully selected antiques throughout, such as the approach wall tiles hand-painted by Portuguese craftsmen, and the music box casually placed in the lobby made in Germany from the 19th century. The Italian restaurant "Amalia Salon" on the first floor of the hotel also has a southern European-style retro-modern design. Why not enjoy a relaxing time with an exotic atmosphere for lunch or dinner?

A nostalgic picture book house that both adults and children can enjoy

As you pass through the gate, you will find a garden with colorful flowers blooming and the sound of a babbling stream. This is the ``Prayer Hill Picture Book Museum,'' which has an impressive Western-style tiled architecture. It is a spot where you can immerse yourself in a nostalgic atmosphere, quietly located on a small path from Glover Street under Glover Garden. It is run by Dowakan, a store specializing in children's books in the city. The first floor is a bookstore with 10,000 picture books, and the second and third floors are art museums.

The slope of “Nagasaki Prayer”

``Kenenzaka'' is located along the back alley of Oura Cathedral. It is one of Nagasaki's most representative sightseeing spots, with a stone-paved road built in the early Meiji era that exudes a quiet and calm atmosphere. Remains from the settlement era still exist, and they have great historical value. It is also known for its frequent appearances in stories such as the monthly drama ``Because You Gave Me My Heart'', the movies ``Kaika'' and ``Going to Meet Pecoros' Mother'', and the anime ``From Tomorrow in the Colorful World''. This place is also popular among many tourists for its "sacred place pilgrimage."
At the foot of the slope, there is also the ``Prayer Triangle Zone'' where Oura Suwa Shrine, Myogyoji Temple, and Oura Cathedral, which is a World Heritage Site, are adjacent, and you can encounter a rare scene where shrines, temples, and churches face each other across the slope. can.

Popular for one-hand sweets that embrace the deliciousness of the ingredients

"Crepe de SAPIN", located right outside the Glover Garden exit, is a popular crepe shop in this area. The crepes are made with the owner's desire to ``enjoy the original taste of the ingredients'' and are fluffy and chewy with a gentle sweetness. The dough and custard are soy milk-based, and go great with seasonal fruits!
In addition to fruit-based crepes, salad crepes such as ``White Chicken & Avocado'' and ``Potato Salad & Ham Cheese'' are also popular, and are perfect for taking out and walking around Glover Garden with sweets in hand. By putting cute sweets, exotic scenery, and yourself in one frame, you are sure to create one of the best memories.

A new base for international exchange and local tourism

A group of seven Western-style wooden houses just up the Dutch slope, and among them is Higashi Yamate's ``Global Museum.'' . This is the remains of a Western-style building built around the 1890s, and is a popular place as a Nagasaki settlement that is unique in Japan.
There is "café slow" inside the building. ``We want to make it a place that is popular with locals and tourists,'' says the cafe, which is based on the concept of serving food that is good for the body. The cafe is located in the Higashi-Yamate area, where you can experience international exchange and interact with local residents while experiencing Nagasaki's history and culture. It is one of the popular spots.
We offer Nagasaki-style menus such as lunches with salad plates that are washed at 50℃ to preserve the deliciousness of the ingredients, and sweets using castella.

Special voices of Nagasaki citizens
When I listened to the voices of the citizens, I realized that there was so much Nagasaki that I didn't know. This year, let's go to Nagasaki that you don't know about.

Nagasaki is a town so deeply connected to sweets that it has been designated as a Japan Heritage site as the ``Nagasaki Road that spread sugar culture.'' I also love traveling, so I enjoy eating sweets from all over Japan, and many of the sweets in Nagasaki not only look great, but are also delicious and will make you smile the moment you eat them. There are many favorite shops in Nagasaki City, but if you want to include them in your sightseeing route, we recommend NGS COFFE near JR Nagasaki Station, which is easy to access! When you add ``flight topping'' to your hot latte drink, it will draw an airplane with cocoa powder. The sweets are also delicious, so you are sure to be satisfied! Please make lots of delicious memories of your trip in Nagasaki♪

I work as a guide because I want to convey the charm of Nagasaki to many people and give back to the city where I was born and raised. The place I recommend is Minami-Yamate. As you continue along the brick walls and stone pavements that remain from the Meiji era, when foreigners lived here, as well as the slopes and stairs that are unique to Nagasaki, you will come to a spot where you can see a panoramic view of Nagasaki Port, and looking at it for a while will soothe your soul. It is called ``Naanka Misaki'' (Long Cape), and is said to have become the name of the place ``Nagasaki.'' The scenery of Nagasaki's port, which has been connected to the rest of the world since ancient times, is a picturesque scenery whether it is sunny or raining.

Nagasaki has a unique atmosphere that is different from the big city. My favorite place among them is the cobblestone slope of Higashi-Yamate, one of the Dutch slopes. This hill was once famous for the Dutch people to walk on, and it's still a place that hasn't changed much to this day, so once you step into it, you'll feel like you've stepped into a foreign country. Heart stones are hidden in many places in Nagasaki, such as among the various stone-paved slopes, or on the stone walls near Megane Bridge, so if you find one, you will feel happy.
