“Visiting Sacred Sites in Nagasaki City” became a hot topic on Fuji TV’s “Monthly 9 Drama”

The monthly drama ``Because you gave me a heart'' (Fuji TV), which is set in Nagasaki, has become a hot topic. Symbolic spots of Nagasaki City, such as Meganebashi and Glover Garden, often appear as filming locations, and in the first broadcast (January 2024, 1) of Fuji TV affiliate TV Nagasaki, 8% of individuals (18.1% of households) achieved a high viewership rating!

During the first broadcast, during the high school scene where the main character, Aihara Ame (Nagano Mei), communicates with Asano Taiyo (Yamada Yuki), she said, ``It's too sweet and sour!'', ``I wish I had spent my youth like this...'', etc. I've seen many comments on social media that make people's hearts flutter when they hear about love stories.

A love story told by the nostalgic and new “Reiwa no Tsuki 9” “Because You Gave My Heart” set in the exotic Nagasaki. In this article, we will carefully select tourist spots in Nagasaki City, where the story was filmed at the beginning!

How about a trip to Nagasaki where you can relive the mental landscape of the two main characters?

What is the story of “Because You Gave Me My Heart”?

The main character, Aihara Ame (Nagano Mei), lacks confidence in herself due to a sad past and is unable to open up to others. However, one day when she returned to her hometown of Nagasaki, she was reunited with Asano Taiyo (Yamada Yuki), the only man she ever had a heart-to-heart relationship with and whom she still cannot forget. However, just as he was happy to be reunited, he met with an accident... A man who calls himself a "guide" from the afterlife appears before Ame, who is drowning in sadness, and tells her the following. ``If you 'give your heart to me,' I will make a miracle happen from now on.'' However, the condition of ``giving your heart'' presented by the guide was too harsh for Ame... What does the ``heart'' that rain is stolen from in exchange for a ``miracle'' mean? And what will happen to the two as a result of the “miracle” performed by the guide? This winter's purest love story begins, with two people with completely opposite names, Rain and Sun, who are passionately in love with each other.

/// Meganebashi ///

In this scene, the main characters Ame and Taiyo play rock, paper, scissors on the stepping stones of the Nakashima River, and the moment the winning Ame steps on the same stone, she loses her balance and hugs her. The bridge reflected in the background is Megane Bridge, which spans the Nakashima River that passes through the center of Nagasaki City. It is called Megane Bridge because the shadow reflected on the bridge and river surface looks like glasses. There are three heart-shaped stones called ``Heart Stones'' hidden in the seawall, and if you find them, it is known as a heart-pounding power spot that will bring you happiness and make your wishes of love come true.

/// Nagasaki Mizubenomori Park ///

This is the scene where Ame and Sun from their high school days cut their fingers and make a promise with the setting sun in the background. The two smiling faces and the beautiful sunset shining over Nagasaki Port left an impression on me. The photo was taken at Nagasaki Mizube no Mori Park. As a symbolic park of Nagasaki, it is loved every day by many citizens of the prefecture. It is also recommended as a spot where you can see luxury cruise ships entering and leaving the port and the World Heritage Site "Giant Cantilever Crane." There is a spacious lawn area, perfect for children to play and relax after sightseeing.

/// Katsuzuzaka (Holland Hill) ///

The scene where Taiyo and Rain walk down the hill, sharing a bright red umbrella, a memento of Taiyo's mother. During our first conversation, I talked about ``tenkyu,'' a phenomenon in which it rains even though there are no clouds in the sky, and I felt sick because of the rain. This is a slope called Katsuzuzaka among Dutch slopes, and is characterized by its steep slope and brick wall. At that time, Westerners were called ``Holland-san,'' so the slopes in this area, which were frequented by many foreigners, came to be called ``Dutch Hill.'' When I climbed it while taking a walk, I was instantly reminded of the scene from the drama.

It is a famous hill that is a scenic spot overlooking Nagasaki Port and Oura Cathedral, and has been used as a filming location for many movies and TV dramas. There are no cars, so you can enjoy it leisurely.

The scene where macarons talk about sweets got a lot of attention. This rooftop is the rooftop of the Nagasaki Prefectural Museum of Art, where we ate macarons that Taiyo's younger sister brought him when he was hospitalized due to an accident. Macarons were a flavor that brought back memories of the sun when I was in high school. It is usually a popular spot as a green oasis for Nagasaki citizens. At night, the museum and the city are illuminated at night.

The park where Ame's grandmother (Yukino) reveals to Taiyo and Haruyo (Ame's younger sister) that she has cancer in her spine. It was impressive to see the two of them at a loss for words after hearing Yukino's words. In the play, she says that she wants the sun to accept the rain's wish for happiness. The shooting location was the prayer zone of Peace Park. The Peace Park, located on a small hill on the north side of the park where the atomic bomb fell, was built as a vow to never repeat a tragic war and a wish for lasting world peace.
