In this edition of "The Editorial Department Goes!", we will introduce the Nagasaki Prefectural Museum of Art, which is surrounded by water and greenery.
Not just art! I will report on various ways to enjoy it.
The Nagasaki Prefectural Museum of Art opened in 17 with the concept of a "breathing museum."
The building was designed by architect Kengo Kuma, and is famous for its buildings across a canal and its rooftop garden full of greenery.
The modern exterior has completely changed, and the inside of the building is now a very warm space filled with soft natural light.
The permanent exhibition room displays two major collections: ``Art related to Nagasaki'' and ``Spanish Art.''
Why Spanish art in Nagasaki? The question arises,
The ``Suma Collection'' was collected by Mr. Yakichiro Suma, who was assigned to Spain as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for five years starting in 1941.
It started when it was donated to Nagasaki, and after that, the current collection of Spanish art such as Goya and Picasso was formed.
In addition, the Nagasaki Prefectural Museum of Art frequently holds a wide variety of exhibitions and events, including special exhibitions that only travel to large cities, as well as exhibitions unique to Nagasaki.

- Tokutaro Nagami, known as the Lord of the Doza
The Nagami family was one of the wealthiest in Nagasaki, amassing much wealth through the financial and trading industries.
Tokutaro (1890-1950), the sixth generation head of the company, was a businessman, but also had a passion for the arts.
It is also said that he had a lively relationship with artists who visited Nagasaki, inviting them to his home and providing them with warm hospitality.
In his later years, he moved to Atami and wrote about scenes from Nagasaki in tanka and haiku.
Although his final moments are not revealed, there is no doubt that he was a person who loved the history and culture of his hometown, Nagasaki, and made a great contribution to its development.
The museum's rooftop garden is a relaxing spot where you can enjoy the night view.
Nagasaki Port stretches out in front of you, and you can enjoy a 180° panoramic view from Nagasaki city center to the Yamate area.
It is a special seat that is open to the public free of charge and allows you to enjoy the wonderful scenery.
Enjoy chatting or reading a book while admiring the view on the benches in the garden with its spacious green lawn and wooden deck.
It is also a place for citizens to get together.
If you time it right, you can even see large cruise ships calling at the port.
It's open until closing, so it's a great place to go on a date while enjoying the night view!

In the rooftop garden, the blue sky is reflected on the glass floor, allowing you to take fantastic photos that look like the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, South America. The blue sky during the day is nice, but at dusk it becomes even more beautiful.
