Nagasaki's grand autumn festival with 380 years of history

This is the grand autumn festival of Suwa Shrine, Chinzei Taisha Shrine, the guardian deity of Nagasaki, and is held for three days from October 10th every year.
It is said that it began in 1634 (Kanei 11) when two prostitutes dedicated a Noh song called ``Komee'' in front of the shrine at Suwa Shrine.

It features a unique and dynamic votive dance (Honouodori) and boasts a tradition of over 380 years. The votive dance has been designated as a nationally designated important intangible folk cultural property.
The town where the dance is dedicated is called ``Odori-cho'', and the festival takes place once every seven years.
In addition to the hon-odori (hon-odori) dances that are performed to Nagauta and the Oranda Manzai dance, there is also the "hiki-mono" (hiki-mono), which is a boat with wheels attached to it and pulled by a large group of people. The combination of the cobblestone pavement and the creaking sound of the wheels makes for an exciting and powerful performance. In addition, the performances carried by a large number of bearers, such as the Kokkodesho and Shachidaiko drums, are often performed with feats such as throwing them into the air and clapping their hands, adding to the excitement of the festival.
Many brave and splendid performances. The audience's excitement reaches its climax as the chant of ``motte koi'' (encore) is heard.
During the festival period, you can enjoy the festival atmosphere throughout the city, making it one of Nagasaki's biggest autumn festivals, attracting many tourists from inside and outside the prefecture.
