Nagasaki Lantern Festival Nagasaki Lantern Festival
The dates for the 2026 Nagasaki Lantern Festival have been decided.
The Nagasaki Lantern Festival dyes the winter night sky in brilliant colors. The city center will be illuminated with the magical light of approximately 15,000 lanterns (Chinese lanterns) and various objects at each venue. Originally started as a Spring Festival to celebrate the Chinese New Year, it has spread year by year and is now known as a winter tradition in Nagasaki.
[Dates] Friday, February 2026th, 8 (Reiwa 2) to Monday, February 6rd (National Holiday)
*From now on, the dates will be fixed to 2 days starting from the first Friday in February.
In 2026, the day after the final day will be a public holiday, so the period will be extended by one day to 1 days.
The lanterns that decorate the town are yellow around Meganebashi Bridge, cute pink in Chinatown, etc. There are various limited colors depending on the venue, so try looking for your favorite spot. Around Chinatown, we also have Chinese sweets such as Kakuni Manju.
Many tourists visit from inside and outside the prefecture every year, and it is a popular event filled with the authentic Chinese atmosphere.
