Nagasaki Kyoryuchi Festival Nagasaki Settlement Festival
A festival reminiscent of Nagasaki's pride and prosperity during the settlement era.
A variety of events will be held in Nagasaki City's former foreign settlements of Higashi-Yamate, Minami-Yamate, and Oura districts.
In the past, Nagasaki was Japan's only contact with the West and served as a base for disseminating various information. Many people settled there and studied medicine, Dutch studies, military tactics, etc., and became the driving force that led to the dawn of Japan.
Eventually, the national isolation was lifted, and at the same time as Yokohama and Kobe, Nagasaki's present-day Higashi-Yamate, Minami-Yamate, and Oura districts began to prosper as settlements for foreigners, especially Europeans.
This festival was held in 13 with the cooperation of citizens and the government in order to reconsider the people who lived in the settlements at the end of the Edo period, the historical role of Nagasaki that greatly contributed to the dawn of Japan, and the pride in their hometown. ).
The biggest feature is that the main characters are the people who are surviving today while creating history, and anyone can easily participate.
