Koushisai Confucius Festival

Reenactments of ancient Chinese festivals

This festival celebrates the birth of Confucius (551 BC), the founder of Confucianism.

Constructed in 26, Nagasaki Confucius Mausoleum has a mausoleum that combines the colorful architectural styles of southern China and northern China, and a statue of Confucius is enshrined in Taiseiden, which towers in the center. I am.

With the great cooperation of the Chinese government and the assistance of the Confucius Temple in Qufu, Shandong Province, we built glass tiles, stone balustrades, granite dragons, stone men, unicorns, and a sacred niche to enshrine a statue of Confucius. It is the only authentic Confucius temple in Japan built by Chinese people, with all the materials including the statue of the 72 Wise Men imported from China.

At the Confucius Festival, three sacrifices (one cow, one pig, and one goat) are offered in front of the Dacheng Hall inside the Confucius Temple. The ceremonial clothes and ritual tools of more than ten priests are dressed up in accordance with the ancient style, and the richly ancient ritual is recreated.

This deluxe version of the festival, which recreates an ancient Chinese ritual exactly like the Ming Dynasty, also features a Chinese lion dance, making it even more popular.
