Information on learning programs unique to Nagasaki.
In addition to learning about history, traditional culture, and industry, there are various learning programs such as the [Nagasaki Peace AR App] that makes full use of digital technology and the [Nagasaki SDGs Peace Workshop] where each student actively participates. We have available. Nagasaki is rich in materials for history and peace studies, making it the perfect city for exploratory learning.

1. exploratory learning

Inquiry learning is a learning activity in which students set their own problems, collect, organize, and analyze information in order to solve them, and exchange opinions and share roles with group members. Due to its history and culture, Nagasaki has a wealth of materials and themes to explore, and a variety of activities are possible.

2. peace learning

In Nagasaki, which has a history of atomic bombing, you can learn about peace in a variety of ways by interacting with Nagasaki citizen guides and atomic bomb survivors. We hope that the students who visited Nagasaki will learn about the efforts of Nagasaki City, a peace-promoting city, and think about what they can do for a peaceful world in the future.

3. history learning

Nagasaki is a city with a history spanning many eras. The Edo period was the only time in the country's isolation that allowed exchange with foreign countries, and foreign cultures and things new to Japan entered the country; the Meiji period, when interaction with foreigners led to Japan's industrial revolution; coal mining and shipbuilding; and the atomic bombing and reconstruction. You can learn about various eras in Nagasaki, including the Showa era.

4. industrial learning

Japan's technological innovation was driven by a history of exchanges with foreign traders such as Glover, Ringer, and Ort in Nagasaki, which eventually led to the Industrial Revolution. Why not learn about the history of Japan's representative coal industry, which was the driving force behind this, at places such as Hashima (Gunkanjima), which is part of the World Heritage Site "Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution," and Ikeshima Coal Mine (closed in 2001), the only place in Japan where you can experience this?

5. Traditional culture experience

The Nagasaki Dragon Dance, which has a long tradition in Nagasaki, is a traditional culture that was brought to Nagasaki and became established due to the history of exchange with China. Since 11 people are required to express the movements of a dragon, the cooperation of all participants is important, making it perfect for learning that enhances team building. We also recommend learning about the history of Chinese culture in Nagasaki through the Nagasaki Dragon Dance experience.

6. Food/manufacturing experience

When you think of Nagasaki, you think of Champon. Under the guidance of a local culinary expert, you will learn about the history of Champon, which was born from exchanges between Nagasaki and China, and then prepare and eat delicious Champon. You can also experience glassblowing and making glass accessories at Nagasaki Glass, which is represented by stained glass.

7. nature experience

In Nagasaki, which has a long history of exchange with China, Nagasaki Peron has been enjoyed as a summer tradition with a history of over 300 years. It is recommended as an experience that enhances team building, as everyone can work together to row the boat smoothly and powerfully.

8. English experience

Enjoy studying in English in Nagasaki, an international city that was once a hub of interaction with foreigners on Dejima. We offer six programs called "Global Friends Nagasaki", including workshops from the perspective of SDGs, walking around the city using English with foreigners, and international exchange with foreign students.
