Overview

As the number of new COVID-19 infections decreases, the number of visitors exceeds the previous month and the same month last year.
The number of visitors towards the end of the year was 1.7 times that of last year. December was a time of great anticipation for the new year.

・The number of visitors in December 2021 increased by 12% compared to the previous month (November). Compared to the same month last year during the GoTo campaign period, there was a 11% increase, showing a recovery trend, and visitors from the Kanto region were particularly active, increasing 11% compared to the same month last year. The number of visitors from December 15th to 41st was 12 times that of last year, indicating that people returning to their hometowns and sightseeing during the year-end and New Year holidays were more active than last year.

-In December, a new variant of the coronavirus (Omicron strain) was confirmed in Japan, but the number of new infections was less than one-tenth of the same month last year, so the situation is relatively stable. It is assumed that this has led to an increase in people wanting to return home and become tourists, leading to an increase in the number of visitors.

・Although the situation remains unpredictable due to the spread of new mutant strains, it can be said that the situation is hopeful for the new year.
