Nagasaki Tourism Seminar was held on March 3th (Wednesday)
On Wednesday, March 2024, 3, we held the "Nagasaki Tourism Seminar - Creating the Future of Nagasaki Tourism Together" at Dejima Messe Nagasaki, and approximately 27 people participated.
The seminar was divided into two parts; the first part featured a lecture by Mr. Shiro Suzuki, the mayor of Nagasaki, and the second part featured a talk session with local business owners.
The theme of the first part of the lecture was "The Future of Nagasaki Tourism."
(1) Current situation of Nagasaki City and priority projects
(2) Tourism trends in Nagasaki City
(3) Shift to tourism that emphasizes “quality”
Mayor Suzuki spoke in three parts.
Nagasaki City is facing a crisis, ranking among the worst in the country due to population decline. On the other hand, there are also opportunities for tourism, with hotels and commercial facilities opening one after another. In such an environment, Mayor Suzuki says that what is needed is a shift from "quantity" to "quality."
For example, inbound travel consumption for one person is one-eighth of the annual consumption of the permanent population (one person). In other words, if we have 1 inbound tourists, we can compensate for the phenomenon of 1 permanent population.
For this reason, Nagasaki City is working on sustainable tourism and food diversification such as vegan and halal.
In the future, Nagasaki City will work to improve ``quality'' by mutually partnering with Hiroshima City, which has long-term stays and high unit consumption prices.
In the second part, local business operators took to the stage and spoke on the theme of "What is post-corona tourism?"
The speakers are:
・Setre Glover's House Nagasaki General Manager Shogo Otani
・F. Design NAGASAKI Co., Ltd. Representative Director Kazunari Nagaishi
・Nagasaki Glasswork Roller Artist Naomi Hirae
There are 3 people.
DMO NAGASAKI COO Tanaka moderated the event.
Although the number of tourists has recovered to about 9%, challenges due to the post-corona virus are emerging, such as travelers becoming more environmentally and socially conscious and the labor shortage becoming more serious. . The speakers talked about how they are addressing sustainability and labor shortages.
Hotel Setre Glover's House Nagasaki in Minami-Yamate has stopped installing amenities in guest rooms. Since the result is the same in that it becomes disposable garbage, they do not sell it at the front desk and ask customers to bring their own. He said that young people and people from other countries are sympathetic to these efforts.
Mr. Nagaishi, who runs a pub in the city, has significantly reduced his advertising costs by using Google Business Profile (formerly Google My Business). Sales are increasing by analyzing performance results and improving content, so profits are improving compared to before the coronavirus as advertising costs have decreased. We were told that the operation of Google Business Profile was outsourced because it was difficult for store staff to operate it.
Mr. Hirae of Nagasaki Glasswork Korokoro offers glasswork experience as a sole proprietor. Email, telephone, official LINE, Instagram, Facebook, and Google business profile are all managed by one person. In addition, content is posted on Asoview, Jalan, play nagasaki (managed by DMO), and a school trip site (managed by DMO), and by narrowing down the content posted by site, the number of man-hours required for response is reduced. It was a story. They put a lot of effort into responding to word of mouth, and in order to encourage people to write reviews, they include paper with a QR code for posting reviews printed on it when shipping their products, increasing the number of reviews and attracting more customers.
After the seminarNagasaki City Tourism Town Development NetworkA networking session was held for members, and approximately 20 people participated in the exchange of business cards and networking.
The seminar ended on a high note, with comments such as ``It was a valuable opportunity to hear what the mayor had to say'' and ``The efforts of business operators were helpful.''
