The Nagasaki Grouper Fried Festival, a traditional spring event in Nagasaki City, was held on April 4th (Sunday) at Karahakkei Park in the city. Blessed with clear skies, visitors enjoyed watching colorful groupers soaring high into the blue sky.
Sixteen people from all over the prefecture participated in the main event, the Grouper Battle, and Mr. Urakawa from Nishiyama-cho, Nagasaki City won for the first time.
There was also a celebratory dance performance by members of the Nagasaki Kenban, a performance by 34 members of the Nagasaki Prefectural Southern High School brass band wearing happi coats with the image of a grouper, a display of traditional batata, and distribution of ichisen batata.
