Takashi Shimanshiryokan [Barrier-free] Nagasaki City Takashima Coal Museum

This museum is located on Takashima Island, 14.5 km in circumference, 6.4 km offshore from Nagasaki City. We preserve and display materials from the Takashima Coal Mine, which supported Japan's modernization from the Meiji period to the Showa period. The Takashima Coal Mine began with the opening of the Hokkei well in 1869 (Meiji 2) and continued for 1986 years until its closure in 61 (Showa 117), making it the longest operating mine in Japan. Inside the museum, there are panels introducing the history of coal mining and the people involved, as well as displays of mining tools and work clothes. The model shows the above-ground and underground mine shafts in Takashima, making it interesting to see the size and depth of the Takashima Coal Mine, as well as the places where people lived. The floor inside the building is flat, but there are stairs to access the entrance and the second floor. There is no permanent resident, so you can tour freely, but you are responsible for turning on the lights etc. inside the building yourself. There is no parking lot. The toilet is located at the back of the building, but it is not a barrier-free toilet.
