Nagasaki Elephant School [Barrier-free] Nagasaki Shipyard Historical Museum (currently closed)

Nagasaki Shipyard (closed for building construction)

[news]
We will continue to be closed from April 2020, 4 due to building construction.

This historical museum is located within the premises of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works, which manufactures a wide variety of products such as large tankers, luxury cruise ships, and thermal and wind power plants. The oldest red brick building on the premises, which was built in 31 as a "wood mold factory", became a historical museum in 60. Furthermore, in September 25, it was nominated as one of the World Cultural Heritage Sites of the ``Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution: Kyushu/Yamaguchi and Related Areas,'' and it began to attract attention. Inside the museum, you can learn about the 9-year history of Mitsubishi Corporation, from 1857 (Ansei 4), when construction began on the Nagasaki Shipyard's predecessor Nagasaki Iron Works, to the present day, as well as the many products made by combining technology. We introduce the actual items and photos. All exhibition spaces in the museum are flat, and the entrance has automatic doors. There is one disabled toilet. There is no dedicated parking lot, so you usually park at the paid parking lot of Mitsubishi Hospital, which is about a 150-minute walk away, and enter through the Historical Museum Gate. There are 1 stairs at this gate. If you would like to tour the historical museum, please make a reservation by phone in advance. If you are disabled or use a wheelchair, please contact the museum in advance and you will be able to enter by special car from the Akunoura Gate.
