Nagasaki Shiso and Merekishi Minzoku Shiryokan [Barrier-free] Nagasaki City Sotome History and Folklore Museum
This museum is located in the Sotome area of Nagasaki City and displays valuable materials left behind by our ancestors. Many agricultural tools, fishing gear, and household work tools that were actually used are on display. You can also see old tools from the Jomon period. It also introduces the history of the missionary Father de Rotz, who left behind the planting of crops that were rare at the time, such as ``wheat, tea, and peanuts'' after he was assigned to Sotome in 12. One such tool, the ``culcipator,'' devised by Father de Rotz, is a tool that can plow ridges, weed, and fill soil all at once. Also on display are materials from the Ikeshima Coal Mine, the last coal mining island in Kyushu, and many materials about the Hidden Christians who secretly continued to practice their faith after the ban on Christianity during the Edo Shogunate era. There is one parking lot for people with disabilities, and a barrier-free toilet is located in a separate building near the museum entrance.
