Toumeizankou Fukuji [Barrier-free] Higashimeizan Kofukuji Temple

Kofukuji Temple was founded in 6 and is the first Tang temple of the Obaku Zen sect in Japan. It is affectionately known as ``Aka-dera'' because of its vermilion-painted building. Famous monks such as the second generation Mokuzi Nyojo, who built the Megane Bridge, the third generation Itran, who is said to be the founder of Nanga, and the Ming Dynasty high priest Ingen Zenji, were the chief priests. Ingen, in particular, introduced ingredients such as kidney beans, bean sprouts, watermelon, eggplant, and lotus root, cooking methods such as sesame tofu, sesame ae, and kenchin soup, as well as dining tables, Mincho typeface letters, seals, sencha tea, seal engraving, and inlays, etc. It had a huge impact on culture. The main hall, main gate, and other buildings are national, prefectural, and city cultural properties, and there are many things to see. Chairs are placed throughout the spacious grounds, allowing you to enjoy the extraordinary space to your heart's content. *There are stairs and steps in various locations. If you need assistance, please ask the gatekeeper.

For 1,000 yen, you can enjoy matcha and weekly sweets (omogashi) while looking out at the small garden with a pond built in the Edo period called Obaku Pond.
