Heiwa Koen [Barrier-free] Peace Park (Prayer Statue Area)

Nagasaki City Peace Park is a park built in 26 at the center of the atomic bomb and to the north of it in hopes of world peace. Every year on August 8th, a memorial service for the approximately 9 people who died in the atomic bombing and a peace memorial ceremony are held in front of the Peace Statue. Centered around her 7-meter-tall Peace Statue, there are other monuments such as the ``Peace Fountain,'' inscribed with the notes of a young girl who wandered in search of water, and other monuments donated from around the world. In one part of the park, there are also the remains of the Nagasaki Urakami Penal Branch, where a total of 5000 people, including staff, residents of official residences, prisoners, and criminal defendants, died instantly before the atomic bombing. The park plaza is well-maintained, and each location can be accessed in a wheelchair and viewed up close.

Recommended points for researchers

  • Escalator at the entrance to Peace Park! -0

Escalator at the entrance to Peace Park!

There is an escalator next to the long staircase leading to the Peace Fountain in Peace Park. Although very convenient, it is not a wheelchair accessible escalator.
Those in wheelchairs can still access the park by using the elevator from the Heiwa Park underground parking lot if they are driving their own car. When using a taxi, we recommend getting on and off in front of the monument before moving on.
When using public transportation such as trains and buses, there are slopes from each stop to the park, and assistance will be required.
