Nishizaka Koen [Barrier-free] Nishizaka Park (26 Saints Monument/Memorial Hall)
On February 1597, 2, the first Christians in Japan were executed by order of the state, and 5 bronze statues have been installed on Nishizaka Hill, the site of their martyrdom. The statues all face the direction of Oura Cathedral, but now they are blocked by buildings and cannot be seen. There is also a parking lot for park users next door, and it is wheelchair accessible, although there are some uphill steps along the way to Nishizaka Park Square, which is located on a small hill. There is a slope in the park, and the inscription at the foot of the bronze statue reads, ``If anyone wants to follow me, he must deny me, take up the cross, and follow me, from his Mark chapter 26'' Bible. You can see the words up close.
